Preparation for taking urine tests
There are several types of urine tests, and they all require different preparation. Collection rules are also different. If they are violated, you can get an unreliable result and ineffective treatment.
General recommendations for the preparation and collection of urine
It is recommended to collect urine in the morning.
10-12 hours before the examination, it is not recommended to consume alcohol, spicy and salty food, as well as food products that change the color of urine (beetroot, carrot). Drink as much fluid as you would on a normal day.
Taking medicines must be agreed with the doctor. If possible, exclude the use of diuretics.
Women should not take a urine test during menstruation.
Exceptions to these rules are studies that are performed on a doctor's prescription at any time, as needed.
Recommendations for urine collection:
- Do not unscrew the cap of the vacuum tubes.
- Wash your hands, then conduct a thorough toilet of the external genitalia.
- Unscrew the lid of the container and place it with the urine transfer device facing up. WARNING! Do not touch the sterile straw or the inside of the lid with your hands
- Flush the first small portion of urine into the toilet, and then collect the medium portion in the container.
- Screw the lid on tightly, holding it carefully by the edges, then fold back the sticker on the lid of the container.
- Place the tube cap down into the recess on the container lid. Press down on the bottom of the tube until the needle pierces the rubber stopper in the cap and urine begins to flow into the tube. While holding the tube, wait for it to fill. Then remove from the lid of the container. Repeat the filling procedure for each tube received.
- Mix the contents of the test tube 8-10 times, carefully turning it 180 degrees.
- Pour the remaining urine down the toilet and dispose of the container.
