Preparation for pelvic ultrasound

Also, 3 days before the ultrasound, it is recommended not to eat food that causes increased gas production: legumes, cabbage, fermented milk products, etc.
For transrectal ultrasound, the large intestine should be cleaned with an enema 2-3 hours before the procedure. You can take a laxative a day before the examination. Transvaginal ultrasound does not require special preparation, except for emptying the bladder before the procedure.
Indications for pelvic ultrasound
In case of suspicion of pregnancy, the procedure will give an accurate answer about the presence or absence of a fertilized egg. The following symptoms should also be a reason for examining the pelvis in women:
- severe menstrual pain
- violation of the menstrual cycle (premature bleeding, delays, any pathological discharge)
- pain in the lower abdomen
- the appearance of blood in the urine.
Compulsory examination of the pelvic organs in women is prescribed:
- if a urological or gynecological disease is suspected;
- in the presence of pathologies of the internal organs of the reproductive system (ovaries, uterus) - endometriosis, fibroids, etc.;
- in the presence of symptoms of oncology and when neoplasms are detected in the pelvis;
- if infertility is suspected;
- in the presence of chronic inflammatory processes or diseases in the pelvis;
- with complications after childbirth or abortion;
- to evaluate treatment results.
